heading back to canada….
April 10, 2009
I traveled back to mysore early this week to spend my last few days in India where I started the trip.
India has been an incredible time for me. I find it quite difficult to explain the experience I have had here in words.
I feel so blessed to have been given the opportunity to be in India this year.
I would like to thank everyone so much for making this trip possible.
I am really looking forward to being back at all the studios in Toronto next week to spread the Indian yoga energy!!!!
I will be posting my april yoga class schedule on this blog on Monday!!!
peace and love,
Jonny
Tiruvannamalai, India @ Ramana Maharshi’s Ashram
April 7, 2009
I left Goa on Friday morning and headed east to the bottom of Arunachala mountain at Ramana Maharshi’s Ashram in Tiruvannamalai.
Ramana Maharshi’s Ashram was a spot in India that I have wanted to go visist for a while now. It felt really nice to be there.

I found my way to the ocean!!! well to be more geographically correct the Arabian Sea. I have been in Goa now for over a week and it is GREAT!!! the sand, the sun, the Arabian sea….all so amazing.
here are some pictures which will help explain my experience:
I started my Goa trip in the North at Mandrem Beach. I found a bamboo hut on the beach and i lived in that bamboo hut for 8 nights. this is the hut D-9.

and this is my new “bucket wash” view.

playing in the sea.

who is that in the distance?…..is that my good friend Darcy from Toronto running in from the Arabian sea to say hi.

hey Darcy thanks for dropping by, do you want to go more south down the coast of Goa to Candolim? Darcy said “sure”.
this is the sunset from Candolim Beach.

this is Darcy and me soaking up all that sunset.

lunch time. Indian food styles.

ok back to the Sea. we moved a little more north to check out Vagator beach. that is one strong sea breeze.

Darcy thanks for dropping by to say hi. I had a great time hanging out with you in Goa. safe trip back to Toronto.

the coffee estate.
February 24, 2009
this past friday a group of us travelled to Coorg, a coffee growing region in the south of india. we stayed at Honey Valley which is a coffee estate in the area. Honey Valley was very relaxing, and i was able to talk to the owner of Honey Valley about growing Coffee. I also took a bunch of pictures of the coffee growing process.
this first picture is of the coffee berries on the coffee plant.

now a closer look.

the coffee berries are picked by hand, then they are laid on the ground to dry in the sun.

this is what they look like when they dry.

the aerial view.

then once the Berry is dried, it is easy to open and see the Coffee Bean.

taste of india….
February 19, 2009
a date & cashew laddu.
a laddu (or laddoo) is the Indian word for any ball-shaped sweet. laddu is made with all sorts of ingredients from fruits and vegetables, to grains and legumes!
i thought i would share a taste of india with you.
i did some research on the internet and found these ingredients and procedure would best represent my laddu experience.
Ingredients:
• Chopped dry dates- 1cup
• lightly Toasted cashew- 1/4th cup
• lightly Toasted Dry coconut- 3 tbsps
• lightly Toasted poppy seeds(gasalu)- 2 tbsps
• Golden raisins- 1/4th cup
• Cardamom- 6
• Grated jaggery- 2 to 3 tbsps (adjust according to your taste)
Procedure:
First grind the poppy seeds in a mixer. Transfer it to a large mixing bowl.
Now grind cashews, coconut, cardamom and jaggery to a fine powder. Remove this mixture and grind the dates to fine powder. Now transfer the rest of the ingredients that were ground and grind it again.
Note: Its important to grind the poppy seeds seperately, because it takes more time to grind.
And also cutting the dates to small pieces helps it to grind faster.
here is a picture of the laddus, the guy who sells them, and myself:

Sharath in Toronto & India update.
February 15, 2009
Hello!
The Yoga teacher who I am studying with right now in India (Sharath Rangaswamy) is making his first trip to Toronto this summer (May 2oth – May 26th).
To register go to www.sharathtoronto.com.
I copied and pasted the following off the website.
Sharath Rangaswamy is the grandson of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, master teacher and guru of Ashtanga Yoga. Sharath practiced under and taught along side his grandfather for almost 20 years. Since his grandfather’s retirement from active teaching , Sharath is now in charge of teaching at the K. Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute, in Mysore India.
Sharath is also Pattabhi Jois’ most advanced student.
He has mastered five series of the Ashtanga yoga system
and is currently studying several asanas in the sixth and final series.

———
Everything is still going amazing!!! I just finished my first month here and I am going to register today for another month of classes with Sharath. After that I will spend about a month traveling around south India, then I will be back in Toronto mid-April.
I miss everyone and I am excited to be with all of you again in the spring!!!
peace and love,
Jonny

i strongly encourage everyone that can to check out the studio and get some of the powerful indian energy that david is bringing home with him!!!
